Welcoming Address

President of the Asian Federation of Societies For Lactic Acid Bacteria (AFSLAB) Professor Dr. Sung-Sik Yoon / South Korea
Hello, Dearest Colleagues and Friends in Asian Lactic acid Bacteria Societies!

As a current president of Asian Federations of Societies for Lactic Acid Bacteria (AFSLAB), I would like to thank the organizing committee and volunteers for their constant effort to make the ACLAB12 successful. Also, my sincere gratitude goes toward the Malaysian Society for Lactic Acid Bacteria, led by Prof. Dr. Hooi-Ling Foo, who is in charge of the ACLAB12 organising committee despite the Covid-19 pandemic across the world. The international conference will be held at Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, in the most beautiful place, in October 2022.
AFSLAB has successfully held the ACLAB conferences annually to encourage research, communication, and education in LAB-related sciences for more than twenty years. The main objectives are enhancing the communication and interaction between Asian scientists interested in LAB and the related subjects and facilitating discussion and dissemination of the Science of LAB through conferences, symposia, meetings, and report publications. In that context, we all have gathered to discuss LAB's forefront knowledge and their prodigious probiotic functions. This ceaseless effort has allowed us to consider many traditional fermented foods, microbial biodiversity, and human health in Asia. I am sure the ACLAB12 conference will be fruitful and successful via the active involvement of Asian scientists and students working in LAB.
Finally, I will strongly encourage all of you to come and join the ACLAB12 to learn and enjoy all the sessions at the international event in Malaysia. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Message from
The CHAIRPERSON of ACLAB12

Vice President of the Asian Federation of Lactic Acid Bacteria (AFSLAB)
President of the Malaysian Society for Lactic Acid Bacteria (MSLAB)
Professor Dr. Hooi Ling Foo
Asian Conference on Lactic Acid Bacteria (ACLAB) is an annual scientific meeting organised rotatably by the consortium countries of the Asian Federation of Societies for Lactic Acid bacteria (AFSLAB), which has members from all over Asia such as China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. The Malaysian Society for Lactic Acid Bacteria is given the great honour to organise the ACLAB12 in 2022.
Over the past couple of years, we have been enveloped by the pandemic threat of Covid-19. We have learned to live in a new norm in all aspects of our life, whereby almost all seminars/conferences have been held virtually. It has been great as it has connected people from all over the world with just a “click”. However, humans are never meant to live remotely, so physical presence is greatly missed, whether with family and friends, schools, or work settings. Therefore, I am pleased to announce that the ACLAB12 will be organised as an in-person scientific meeting on the 10 - 13 of October 2022 in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.
We wish to welcome you to Kuching, Sarawak, with the greatest pride. Kuching is the capital city of Sarawak, located on the exotic Borneo island, rich in the biodiversity of flora and fauna. The city takes pride in its diverse cultures and foods, national parks, rainforests, and colonial history. We cordially invite you to discover more about the beauty of Sarawak in addition to the advanced knowledge and applications of Lactic Acid Bacteria
The conference theme of ACLAB12 is “Evidence-based LAB: Advances, Opportunities & Challenges” in response to the fast development of lactic acid bacteria (LAB)-based research and applications in various avenues over the past few decades. ACLAB12 will feature 2 full days of scientific sharing sessions and a day of technical visits. We look forward to bringing together researchers, academicians and industry representatives from all over the world to participate in this highly anticipated annual event of AFSLAB. We hope that ACLAB12 will continue to be the primary platform to showcase the latest scientific advances and applications of Lactic Acid Bacteria.
On behalf of the Organising Committee, I take great pleasure and honour to meet you at the exciting event of ACLAB12.

The Malaysian Society for Lactic Acid Bacteria (MSLAB) is proud to host the 12th Asian Conference on Lactic Acid Bacteria (ACLAB12) under the auspices of the Asian Federation of Societies for Lactic Acid Bacteria (AFSLAB). The main objective of ACLAB12 is to disseminate cutting edge developments of LAB. The conference theme of ACLAB12: “Evidence-based LAB: advances, opportunities and challenges” will encompass 8 tracks of scientific sessions. The 12th ACLAB will continue to be the primary platform to showcase the fast development of LAB-based research and technologies that will facilitate networking and collaborations with various stakeholders. We look forward to meet researchers, academicians, students and industry representatives to participate in this highly anticipated event.
